Target Seed LLC is the newest addition to the J. C. Watson family of companies. Located in southwestern Idaho's Treasure Valley since 1912, the J.C. Watson Company is a grower, shipper and packer of fresh fruits and vegetables, well known for handling the same growers from generation to generation. In addition to marketing nationally and internationally recognized labels of potatoes, onions and apples, this third generation company also owns and operates a regional fertilizer and chemical company.
Within the Treasure Valley grower community, and as growers themselves, the principals of Target Seed LLC represent over 25 years experience in commercial alfalfa seed production. Target Seed LLC emerges now at the perfect time, with a rich background in ag-related marketing, with firm support of the area's best producers, and with state of the art alfalfa genetics.
Target Seeds LLC has always offered only top of the line products with proven genetics that were obtained from one of the most respected alfalfa breeding programs in the nation. To insure the continued future supply of elite product lines, Target Seeds, LLC has decided to expand its emphasis in the alfalfa seed industry by hiring its own Alfalfa Breeder, Dr. Donald Miller. Dr. Miller formally worked as the senior alfalfa breeder for ABI Alfalfa and has 31 years of experience in alfalfa breeding. During Dr. Miller’s career in the public and private industry, he has been involved in the development /co-development of approximately 150 forage varieties. Dr. Miller’s addition to Target Seeds, LLC will provide continuity between Target Seeds past and future varieties, insuring high yielding and high quality products for the grower.
Dr. Jim Moutray the former Director of Research for ABI Alfalfa has also been hired by Target Seed, LLC as a breeding consultant to assist in the selection and release of the next generation of varieties. Dr Moutray has 40+ years experience in breeding alfalfa and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Target Seed breeding program.
A new sales division, Target Seeds Sales, LLC has also been established to coordinate the sales of the Proprietary Alfalfa, Red Clover and Forage Grass Seeds. Tom Miles the National Sales Manager: Tom Miles brings 27 years of experience to the new sales division having formally worked for ABI Alfalfa, Inc in its seed production and sales divisions. Gene Lind …Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for the Midwest. Gene Lind has worked in the alfalfa industry for 40+ years, and was formally the National Sales Manager for ABI Alfalfa. Jerry Vacek…Target Seeds Newest Regional Sales Manager, will be responsible for North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. Jerry Vacek was formerly a Monsanto regional sales manager, and most recently a salesman for Advantage Ag.
Tom Miles and the breeding team of Dr. Don Miller and Dr. Jim Moutray will be based in Idaho, Target Seeds main seed production area. Gene Lind is based in Princeton Illinois, and Jerry Vacek in Holmen, Wisconsin.
The goal of Target Seeds LLC is to develop, produce, and deliver high quality seed at a reasonable price. Combining our parent company's marketing expertise with substantial grower support, and an ability to stay on the leading edge of emerging alfalfa seed technology. Target Seeds LLC is here to serve distributors, dealers, and individual producers.
